A traditional
Punjabi (North India) instrument ‘tumbi’
opens the song. It’s backed by Greg’s
great drum riff and the powerful ‘Dhol’
(Punjabi Drum). The beat is instantly recognisable
as the bhangra beat from the Punjab. But then
there’s a curved ball – a raunchy
rock guitar riff from Electric Larry. Blend this
with some masterful strokes from the sarode.
The vocals open with Tinku
singing soulfully and Gurjit echoing in Punjabi
lyrics. This is truly a masterful fusion of rock
and Punjabi folk music. ‘Ride Away’
on the other hand is a song that will instantly
transport you to a place you are yet to visit
but often imagine.
Both of these tracks off the
'Full Circle' album were
produced by David Nicolas at '301 Studios' in
Sydney. |
